How do our classes work?

Class Structure

All of our group classes are 4 weeks in length and begin the first week of the month. Each class meets weekly for 55 minutes at the same time each week (for example: Mondays at 6pm for 4 weeks).

Our classes are progressive in structure, so each week’s class builds on the one before. To build confidence in the skills you are learning, it is best to plan on attending the classes consecutively.

Levels

Levels for each style of dance are divided into Introduction, Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced Levels. Everyone learns at different paces, so we encourage you to take the same level more than once until you feel ready to advance to the next level. We also encourage you to ask your instructors’ advice for which class level is the best fit for you.

Introduction - This level is for you if you are learning a style for the first time OR if it’s been a long time since you’ve danced and you’d like to review the basics.

Beginner - After completing the Introduction level, you can move on to the Beginner level where you’ll continue improving the basic steps while learning more partner work and dance techniques.

Intermediate - If you have completed the Intro and Beginner levels (or have equivalent experience) and feel confident with that material, this level is for you. Intermediate classes move beyond basic steps and begin focusing more on technique and adding more complex moves. Intermediate classes rotate through topics every month. Students are encouraged to take at least 4 months of Intermediate level classes before moving on to Advanced levels.

Advanced - Advanced level classes focus on the subtleties of partner-work and improving technique, musicality, and improvisation on the social dance floor. You must have completed both the Intro and Intermediate levels or equivalent in order to enroll in an advanced class.

Class policies

  • We can not refund an individual class hour or transfer it to the next month.

If you know at the beginning of the session that you will miss a class, we welcome you to jump into one of our other classes during the first week of the monthly session only. After this, all classes are closed for new students.

It is your responsibility to keep track of which classes you are enrolled in. If, after registering (and before the 1st of the month), you realize you will miss most of the classes we can refund or transfer your registration to the next month.

  • Each class builds on the one before. We require that you make it to at least 3 of the the 4 weeks so that the flow of class is not disrupted. If you need to miss a class, don’t worry! We always review what we went over the previous week before teaching new material.

If you arrive more than 15 minutes late to a class, it is up to the teacher’s and studio manager’s discretion whether or not you can still join in. This is to prevent disruptions for the other dancers in the class.

  • Group classes are subject to cancellation after the first week if fewer than 4 people enroll.

In the event of cancellation, students will either be recommended to a different class, will be refunded the remaining 3 classes, or can transfer the remaining 3 classes to the next month.
